Can anyone help me with this time-related calculation?
I write songs, and I want to be able to put my mp3s up. The thing is, I use recording software that has limitations because I’m using the free versions. My recording software only allows me to record in wav format, so when I want to make it into mp3 I use a trial version of a wav to mp3 converter, which only converts 60% of the song. I add long silences to my songs in order to get the full file converted, but I’m usually left with entire minutes of silence at the end. Is anyone gifted with math and can help me figure out how to put the exact right amount of silence at the end of my songs, or maybe recommend other free wav to mp3 converters? Thank you for your help.
Also, if you’re curious, you can hear my music here: http://www.youtube.com/user/littlemisstypesalot . My best songs are You Don’t Know What You’ve Got and Calm Before The Storm. If you could leave comments, I’d be very grateful!
I think I’ve got some kind of a handle on what you are asking because I had to go through the same thing with a freebie download of movavi and, smilar to your case they only converted 30% (I think that’s what it was, of videography I was creating for my You Tube channel.
So it sounds like a straightforward algebraic issue here…..
You time yourself with a stop watch performing one of your numbers…say it’s time t
then let t = 0.6 x X where X is the TOTAL length of time for the track which icludes your song plus all the “dead time”….then when you record a certain number after you finish, just keep recording for enough time to make the total time equal to X….or you can just record the number and then make sure you leave the recorder running with a dead mike for another X – t minutes
I’ve done a lot of tape dubbing and editing and most of the musical numbers ran almost exactly 2 minutes and 45 seconds
So let’s say your particular song runs 3 minutes, then
3 = 0.6 (60%) times X
then X = 3 / 0.6 = 5 minutes so then you would have to make sure your recording ran for five minutes or when you finished the number let the recorder run another 5 – 3 or two minutes…that way, the free program will convert your whole song (you actually might want to run a few seconds longer yet to make sure their “60%” gets your whole piece.
Make sense?
