Lame Mp3 Vbr Quality

Audiophiles help please regarding MP3 320 CBR to VBR conversion?

Can any folks who play with mp3 files answer the following question:
Several years ago I encoded all of my CD’s to mp3 320 CBR which I play on my wireless speakers via Winamp. Since then VBR has shown up and files of equal quality can be made requiring much less storage space. What I am wondering is if I use foobar2000 set at the highest quality setting (using the LAME codec) to recode my 320 CBR to VBR, will there be a noticable drop in fidelity?
I realize that any sort of conversion from a lossy or non-lossy format to a lossy format involves SOME loss of fidelity, but it is relative. I do not have top of the line speakers and my hearing leaves much to be desired. BUT, having popping noises creeping in due to a recoding would not be cool.
Some sample recoding from 320 CBR to High Quality VBR reveals no difference, and using Audacity to examine the files shows no appreciable difference.
I have no wish to rip all my cd’s over again.
Any thoughts?

I’m no audiophile, but I use AIFF as much as possible and primarily for storage.
Not that anyone notices or appreciates the sound quality over mp3 128…
