Mp3 Encoding Library For Audacity

By admin

Audacity question can’t save it in MP3 mode?

after recording i want to save it so i can post it on youtube.
i tried saving it in the ‘ export mp3 file’ form because the ‘save project as’ one said not many files can open it, but then after i give it a name a click save a pop up comes up saying:
‘ Audacity does not export MP3 files directly, but instead uses the freely available LAME library to handle MP3 file encoding. You must
Obtain lame_enc.dll separately, by downloading the LAME MP3 encoder, and then locate this file for Audacity. You only need to do this once

Would you like to locate lame_enc.dll now?
Selection: yes/no ‘

When i click yes another saving sort of file came up and i got totally confused!
please may a audacity proffession help me??

thanks

This is the Audacity help file.

Because of software patents, we cannot distribute MP3 encoding software ourselves. Follow these instructions to use the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity.

Windows:

1. Go to the LAME download page.
2. Under “For Audacity on Windows”, left-click the link “Lame v3.98.2 for Audacity on Windows.exe” and save the file anywhere on your computer. Do not right-click the link to the .exe file.
3. Double-click “Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe” to launch it (you can safely ignore any warnings that the “publisher could not be verified”).
4. Follow the “Setup” instructions to install LAME for Audacity. Do not change the offered destination location of “C:Program FilesLame for Audacity”.
5. The first time you use the “Export as MP3″ command, Audacity will ask for the location of “lame_enc.dll”. Navigate to “C:Program FilesLame for Audacity”, select “lame_enc.dll”, then click “Open” and “OK”.
6. If you prefer the Zip option for the LAME download, save the zip file to anywhere on your computer, extract “lame_enc.dll” to any location, then show Audacity where to find it as in Step 5 above.
7. In case of difficulty, please view our more detailed instructions on the Audacity Wiki.

Or try this. My words but same as step “6″ above.
1: Download Lame from here: http://lame.sourceforge.net/
As long as Audacity knows where to find the codec where it is unzipped too is not important.
2: Unzip the Lame codec (lame_enc.dll) to Audacity’s main folder.
3: The first time after this when you export to mp3 you will be asked to locate the file. Browse to it’s location (main folder) highlight it, click open and then click OK.
As long as you don’t move the codec you will only need to do this once.
