Mp3 Mime Types

By admin

How can I configure Firefox to open links containing MP3s in VLC instead of QUicktime?

I would like FIrefox to open MP3s in an external VLC Media Player instance, instead of using Quicktime inside my browser window. I had it working for a few days, but apparently a Quicktime update hijacked it again.

I guess it goes by mime type for determining what application to use. I opened an MP3 link and the title bar lists it at as (audio/mpeg Object), but there is no such listing under Tools > Options > Applications. The closest thing seems to be “MPEG-4 Movie (audio/mp4)” but I already have that set to open in VLC.

What am I missing?

Thanks!
