What is the best format and bit rate for ripping songs in Windows Media Player?
I just bought the Justin Bieber Never Say Never Remixes, and I want to do something creative with the songs… I want the best quality possible! Theres format: audio, audio pro, mp3, audio bitrate variable, wav lossless and audio lossless. I’ve heard the wav lossless is actually not good to use for good quality… also the speeds are 128 192 256 320 kbps <---320 best quality?
“Best” depends on your needs. If you have lots of space and just want the highest audio quality then a lossless format is the best for that. Whoever said Wav isn’t good to use probably was referring to the fact that it takes up twice the space of other lossless formats like Flac. Flac sounds equally good as Wav (which is CD-quality) while using half the space.
If you want a combination of quality and compression (space-saving), you should use variable bitrate at the highest setting. If whatever device you’re using supports AAC, that’s the best lossy format (besides OGG but if Flac is too big for you then ogg probably is too). Otherwise go with Mp3.
Windows Media Player probably can’t rip to Flac or AAC or many formats, so I wouldn’t rip with that software. I suggest the free program Exact Audio Copy, which is what pretty much every audio freak uses.
